3 Keys to Killer Drum Tracks When You Don't Have Any Drums

There are a lot of musicians his recording engineer, using computer-based home recording studio, usually installed in a spare bedroom. Record a full band with drums with a studio like this can be difficult, assuming you have a band and / or drummer trying. But what if you do not have drums or a drummer? Do not be afraid. Here are three techniques that will help you make your recordings are so realistic drum.

1. Build your own drum parts

Out there a program that automatically you will have to play the drums, such machines are like the old drum. But bit by bit our own drum track so that we are going to make the ultimate control and flexibility. For this example, I'm assuming that we have a program that is a recording functionality using MIDI drum kit in the sample, and that a MIDI keyboard attached to your computer.

The first thing we will need to load up a drum kit on our tracks. Start a new track and the method uses its software to give through virtual drums. In Reaper, the track "FX" button, which lets you plug-ins from a menu, including virtual instruments will give select Click. To take you program drums and then choose your kit. Use your MIDI keyboard track as input to tell and a special key on your keyboard map to each drum kit will be.

The next thing you need to make sure the software to your song set the pace and be sure to turn the click track. It is important to keep everything aligned. Insert a blank item in the MIDI drum track. Some programs you just get a blank MIDI item may be recorded for a while. Finally, enter the item MIDI MIDI editor window open. MIDI in Reaper you simply double click the item. Now on the notes you hit or grid (corresponding to the beats and measures) to drum to make the first part of your track can draw. This is a relatively fast process and gives you total control. Drawing parts, hi-hat, trap, kick, MIDI Editor, etc. Unless your a complete drum part, which represent different segments of the song can continue. Most songs are made up of "phrases" that repeat or identity, poetry, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, like the song, and not be filled, for example drum finish.

2. Snapping and Gluing

Having to do anything to avoid unusual sound I have two tools, glue items snap to use. At this point in our example the beginning of your midi drum track, say 10 seconds or so. But you also left some empty drums on the first post before hitting the last one. If you MIDI Editor window, click the right edge of the track in the MIDI item and exit and drag to the right or left side, you'll notice that you can raise or lower midi item.

The right to the items as long drag becomes smaller items you on the edge notches of'll notice appearing at regular intervals. What's going on here that you drag to the right, you basically either MIDI drum loops for 10 seconds, start and end points represent the notches are made. Go ahead and stretch it out until you notches (so the first 10 seconds 2 or 3 loops) is set to 2 or 3. Now hit play and listen to how bad it looks (almost certainly). This is because we start to meditate and points when we drum part because we were not thinking about locking in to finish the building were not paid. But looping ability is really useful. We just make sure that we are already off and hit the drum patterns since the last clear need to shave the right amount of MIDI.

Any item that is poetry as part time, a lot of repeats, you will need to be able to loop the item, we are a part of a drag with the mouse can repeat several times. In order for this to work properly before locking tow you must define the appropriate start and end points.

First, make sure that the beats and bars on the grid on your screen represents the current snapping it. The starting point now where part of measures to drag the MIDI item starts on the left is right. Then do the same thing at the end of phrases. Now check to see if it is true need. The song from the beginning to the end of the item highlighted. It usually just MIDI looping playback of items takes a bit of trial and error.

If it does not feel right the first time, just beginning or end (usually ending, in my experience) left or right and try again until you get it right to drag a bit. Remember, it is important that you found here then snapping on the beat would be a logical end point always is to beat or partition. Once you get it right, it probably has any recording software, Reaper glue item tool any tool is my favorite time to work. Item, right mouse click and select Choose Items glue. This will shave off the correct space midi, drums that you can pull, stretch, and / or paste for a phrase capable of loop as many examples as you need to make the song build around. Do this for each section of the song and you have a complete drum track.
